Winter in Czechia: A Cool Time to Go Local

Czechia is beautiful all year round, but it also has a special appeal in winter. Sure, the weather can be cold and rainy but if you dress in layers, you'll keep warm and easily deal with colder temperature.

Get artsy

Slow down and savour your favourite museums and monuments — walking on the Charles bridge or in the cosy streets of Český Krumlov without the crowds is worth the extra clothes you had to pack. Attend a concert, ballet exhibition or opera in the National theatre. From late November through mid-January, holiday lights adorn city streets, buildings, and monuments, and the Old town square beams with a dazzling display of lights on the Christmas tree.

Coffee break

If the weather is bad, get cosy in cafés to warm up and enjoy a break from sightseeing. Prague, Český Krumlov, Telč or Třebíč offer very authentic and beautiful cafés, bistros, or restaurants with delicious meals. You can’t miss an iconic Café Slavia in Prague but try out also Café Louvre or Café No. 3. For dinner date, make a reservation in the Café Imperial with a delicious Czech dishes and unique interiors.

Get of the beaten track

Visit other places in Czechia, beautiful UNESCO heritage towns of Český Krumlov, Telč, Třebíč or Kutná Hora are great start. All of them look magical in snowy blanket with dazzling lights. Most probably you will have them just for yourselves and you will have the chance to experience the authenticity.

Go for a hike in the snow

Šumava national park, Krkonoše or Jizera mountains, these mountain ranges just about 2 hours from Prague offer a great place for snowy hike. Make sure you have enough warm clothes and we recommend to take a local guide to not get lost.

Get sporty!

Skiing – including downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding and even ice-skating – is a must during winter in Czechia, and if that’s something you enjoy you will find plenty of places to do it. Šumava national park and Krkonoše mountains are a winter wonderland proper.
